It’s Our 2nd Birthday!!

Today, the blog turns 2! I can’t believe its been this long. It seems like it was yesterday that I decided to open a blog. This past two years have been a great a experience. I have met great people and have learned a lot about the blogging business; although there is still much to learn.

I have made several mistakes throughout my years in the blogging world and I have decided to share them with you! Maybe I am not alone in this, and if you are still hesitant about blogging or would love to have your own blog, you can learn from my mistakes!

Trying to post everyday

When I started blogging, it was mainly for myself, but also because I got inspired by many successful blogs out there. The more I read, the more I realized these bloggers were blogging ‘full-time’. I knew very little about that, and I just thought that in order to be a blogger you had to write daily. So I tried to write everyday. I also knew very little about how much work a post needs in order to be good enough and enjoyable for others to read. This takes me to my second mistake: Inconsistency.

Inconsistency

Because I thought that you needed to post daily on the blog. I started slacking on it. I couldn’t keep myself focused on blogging and studying full-time. I was going nuts! As a consequence, I failed to post daily like I originally wanted. Some months I posted one time, while others I posted like 15 times. It was crazy. I now know that in order to blog successfully, you just need a schedule that works best with your time. If you want or can blog daily then go for it! But if you just manage to post one time every week, or every month, or maybe twice a week, then create a schedule and organize yourself. Set specific deadlines for your posts; as if you were your own boss.

Procrastinating

My previous two mistakes made me incur in a third and a blogger-worst-enemy: procrastination. Yes, it might have worked in school, you write that 5-page paper the night that is due and you manage to get a good grade. With blogging is a little but different. Quality of content = everything. If you think about it this way, always, always write/publish something that you would share or enjoy reading. If you would not enjoy reading what you are about to publish then why would others?

Poor Quality Photos

This mistake might not be on your mind and you might be doing it. When it comes to images is tricky. Some blog create photos that other bloggers might use. But in my opinion, if you want your blog to be unique and stand out, create your own visuals. For ‘quotes’ and posters I, now-not-before, use a webpage called Canva and I try to take my photos when lighting is best. When I started, I would take pictures at night, in my room, with poor lighting and images came very yellowy and dark. When you think about it, just like when writing content, publish images and visuals that you would double-tap to. You don’t need a thousand-dollar camera, your smartphone/digital camera will be good. Just remember lighting is everything!

way to go for making it to year number two! don’t try to post every day as the key is quality over quantity. 😉

I love the Canva site. I use it all the time to create designs or photo collages. I’m still working on my photo skills to, it can be so hard to get the lighting just right.

Yes, it is hard sometimes. I do recommend from experience and from what my professors have told me: try to always shoot in early morning or sunset as it is the best moments for lighting in the day. Also never shoot the ‘subject’ or objects directly in the light, try to find a very luminous shade. It will be better when you edit them 🙂 Hope this helps! <3

I have learned that lighting really is a deal-breaker when it comes to photos. I will take a picture like 15 times before I get it just right. One of my goals is to take better photos with a better camera.
